A famous novel and movie turned this rider into a household word. If you have a double indemnity rider your beneficiaries will get double the face value of the policy should you die in an accident. Some policies triple the amount if the accident occurs while you are traveling in a common carrier.

Travel insurance plans protect the traveler’s pre-paid and non-refundable trip costs in the event of trip cancellation or trip interruption. However, frequent flyer miles and reward points are somewhat different. Normally, airlines and reward programs charge a fee to re-deposit the miles or change the dates of travel. Therefore, when calculating the trip cost, do not include the cash value of a frequent flyer ticket, rather, include the amount of fees that would be incurred if the trip were canceled. I would prefer to buy car insurance after the fact only, since it’s no fun paying premiums only to never have an accident. What I would like is Comrade Obama to mandate that evil, for profit car insurance companies take on my risk of accident for zero premium in return. Then, when I do have an accident, I can buy the policy and get the damage taken care of. Isn’t that only fair? After all, profits are evil right?
