Beazley has appointed Matthew Holmes to head its energy team.

The 36-year-old, who has over a decade’s experience in the Lloyd’s energy market, joins from Catlin where he was energy class underwriter, covering upstream, downstream and casualty risks.

Commenting on the appointment, Beazley’s head of marine division, Clive Washbourn, says: “Energy is a complex and often challenging class, requiring underwriters with a deep understanding of the energy value chain and their clients’ business.”

Energy risks have accounted for a growing proportion of the business underwritten by Beazley’s marine and energy division in recent years, surpassing $100 million in gross premiums in 2010.
